Tall Flatsedge (Cyperus eragrostis)

Sedges have edges.  If you run your finger along the stem, you’ll find that it is triangular, which is pretty cool.  I’m thinking that a triangular stem allows these plants to stay erect even though they carry a lot of leaves and seeds at the top of their stem.

If you see the green seeds at the top of the plant, stop and look at them closely – they’re very pretty with rough edges and varying color.

The triangular stem of the sedge holds up an elaborate structure of leaves and seeds at the top of the plant.  The plants in the background on the left are rushes.  Both like wet conditions.

Green seeds at the end of stems.  Notice the long narrow leaves carried at the top of the plant.
