Spanish Broom (Spartium junceum) Spanish broom has bold deep yellow pea flowers in spring. Flowers are near the tips of straight upward-sweeping green shoots. Leaves are not particularly noticeable. Spanish broom is an invasive weed, particularly destructive to native plant habitat in Marin.

Flower stems are tubular and upward-sweeping. Yellow blooms congregate at the ends of the stems, earliest blooms at the bottom of the flower spike, and the latest blooms at the very tip.
