French Broom (Genista monspessulana)

French broom has pale yellow pea flowers in spring.  Leaves are in 3s.  Branches spread out, with lots of space between them.  French broom is an invasive weed, particularly destructive to native plant habitat in Marin.

Field ID Tips

·  Short oval leaves, in 3s

·  Stem has 8 to 10 ridges, lengthwise along a round stem.

·  Yellow flowers not at the tips, as with Spanish Broom.

·  Lots of space between branches.
