Buzz Pollinating Makes Visible Bruises

by May Chen

I was out in my garden taking pictures of Solanum xanti before breakfast as I didn't want any weird shadows on the flowers when the sun came out.  I was not aiming for artsy images, just structural details.  A bumble bee was already out sonicating the flowers as I was taking pictures - one could really hear the high-pitch buzzes.  Gotta love these hard working bees!

After breakfast I went out again, thinking maybe the brighter indirect light might bring out the details better.  Turns out there were no longer any pristine flowers - they have all been buzzed and bruised!  Gotta love these bees even more!
